Know all men by these presents that I, Nathaniel Compton Freeman of the County of Fairfax
and Commonwealth of Virginia for and in consideration of the natural love and affection which I
bear to Elizabeth Harris, Nathaniel Freeman Harris, Freeman Harris, Jane Harris, Ann
Sophia Harris and Sarah Eleanor Harris my grandchildren the children of my late daughter Ann
Cumpton Harris of the County of Fauquier and Commonwealth of Virginia as well as for the
further consideration of one dollar to me in hand paid by the said Elizabeth Harris, Nathaniel
Freeman Harris, Freeman Harris, Jane Harris, Ann Sophia Harris, and Sarah Eleanor
Harris at or before the ensealing and delivery of these presents (the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged) have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said
Elizabeth Harris, Nathaniel Freeman Harris, Freeman Harris, Jane Harris, Ann Sophia
Harris, and Sarah Eleanor Harris their heirs execultors administrators and assigns the
following property (viz) one Negro woman Charity of rather light or copper Colour complexion
supposed to be between forty and fifty years of age, one sorrel horse, one no horned cow flesh mark
red & white, artificial mark crop and under heel in the right ear with swallow folrk and under heel
on the left, and one female yearling with small horns natural and artificial marks those of the cow to
have and to hold the said Negro woman Charity, sorrel horse, no horned red and white cow and
small horned red and white female yearlings unto them the said Elizabeth Nathaniel Freeman
Harris, Jane Harris, Ann Sophia Harris and Sarah Eleanor Harris their heirs executors
administrators and assigns for ever, and in event of the death of any of the above named children
before they marry or arrive at the age of twenty one the surviving child or children shall inherit the
part of the deceased child or children and the said Nathaniel Cumpton Freeman for himself his
executors & administrators the said Negro woman Charity, sorrel horse no horned red & white
cow, and female red and white yearling with small horns unto the said Elizabeth Harris, Nathaniel
Freeman Harris, Freeman Harris, Jane Harris, Ann Sophia Harris and Sarah Eleanor
Harris their heirs executors administrators and assigns against the claim of him the said
Nathaniel Cumpton Freeman his heirs executors administrators and assigns and against the claim
or claims of all and every person or persons whatsoever shall and will warrant and forever defend
them by these presents.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty first day of February in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty eight.

At a court held for Fairfax County March 19th 1838:
This deed of gift from Nathaniel C. Freeman to Elizabeth Harris &c was this day acknowledged
by said Freeman to be his act and deed & ordered to be recorded.
