Indenture Between John Freeman to Robert Freeman Jr. 1795
Culpeper County Deed Book 1794-1796 Pages 443/45

This Indenture made the Twenty first day of October in the year of our Lord One
Thousand Seven Hundred and Ninety Five; John Freeman [Taylor] and Phebe his wife, of
the County of Culpeper of the one part and Robert Freeman JR. of said county of other
part; Witnesseth that John Freeman in consideration of the sum of Seventy eight pounds
six shillings current money of Virginia to him in hand paid by Robert Freeman Jr., the
receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged, have and by these presents do bargain and sell
unto Robert Freeman Jr., his heirs a certain parcel of land containing by estimation Fifty
acres more or less, which land was the property of Colo. James Pendleton, deceased. And
by his will directed to be sold, and John Freeman became the purchaser and is bounded;
lying and being in Culpeper County in ST.Marks Parish in the Little Fork of Rappahannock
River, Beginning at two gums at the mouth of a branch and on the river bank and running
up said branch the several courses North forty six Degs. West thirty poles, North six degs.,
west eighteen poles, north five and a quarter east twenty eight poles, north six degs. West
12 poles to a pine and white oak, corner to Freeman's line and near the head of a small
branch, thence with Freeman's line south sixty seven degs. east one hundred and seventy
six poles to a small blazed hickory, thence south twenty five poles to two locusts on the
river bank, thence up the river the several courses and meanders thereof to the beginning;
together with all appurtenances to the same belonging and the rents issues and profits
thereof; To have and to hold the land and premises with appurtenances unto Robert
Freeman Jr. his heirs and John Freeman and Phebe his wife for themselves their heirs will
warrant and forever defend the land and premises to Robert Freeman Jr. his heirs against
the claim of any person; In witness whereof John Freeman and Phebe his wife have
hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year before written.

The Commonwealth of Virginia to JOHN WIGGINTON, JOHN PENDLETON and
THOMAS SPILMAN, Gent., greeting; Whereas John Freeman and Phebe his wife by a
certain Indenture of bargain and sell have sold and conveyed unto Robert Freeman Jr., the
fee simple Estate of Fifty acres of land lying in County of Culpeper, and whereas the said
Phebe cannot conveniently travel to our County Court of Culpeper to make
Acknowledgment of the conveyance.
