This Indenture Deed, made the 22nd day of October in the year of our Lord, One Thousand, Eight
Hundred and Fifty one, between Garrett C. Freeman, Jane W. Freeman and Sophia M. Freeman, of
Loudoun County, in the State of Virginia, of the one part, and Isaiah J. Settle of the County and
State aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth, that, in order to secure to a certain Lewis F. Mankins
and James A. McFarland, the sum of $840.00 due them by two several notes or bonds, dated in the
22nd day of October 1852 and the second payable on the 22nd day of October 1853, both with
interest from date, as well as for and in consideration of the sum of One Dollar to them the said
Garrett C. Freeman, Jane W. Freeman and Sophia M. Freeman in hand paid by the said Isaiah J.
Settle, at the time of the sealing and delivery of these present, the receipt whereof is hereby
acknowledged, the said Garrett C. Freeman, Jane W. Freeman and Sophia M. Freeman, by these
present, have granted, sold and convey unto the said Isaiah J. Settle, all their estate, right, title and
interest in and to a certain tract of land lying in the County of Loudoun, and which was conveyed to
the said Garrett C. Freeman , Jane W. Freeman and Sophia M. Freeman, by Lewis Mankins and
wife, and James A. McFarland, by deed dated on the 22nd day of October 1851, to which deed
references is here made, for a full description of the said tract of land,; Together also with all and
singular, the rights, members, liberties, privileges and appurtenances thereunto belonging, or in
anywise appertaining; To have and to hold the said tract of land, with the appurtenances, unto the
only proper use, benefits and behoof of him the said Isaiah J. Settle his heirs and assigns forever.
That is to say upon the following terms and conditions: If the said Garrett C. Freeman, Jane W.
Freeman and Sophia M. Freeman, or either of them, their heirs ---shall well and truly pay or cause to
be paid unto the said Lewis F. Mankins and James A. McFarland, there heirs and assigns, the
aforesaid sums of money, with all the interest that may a come thereon, when the same shall become
due and payable, them this trust deed shall be nullified, null and void, and of no effect. But if the
said Garrett C. Freeman, Jane W. Freeman, and Sophia M. Freeman their heirs-shall fail or refuse to
pay the aforesaid sum $840.00 dollars with the interest that may acumen thereon, when the same
shall become due and payable, or when the same may lawfully be demanded of them, and shall so
continue - default, or be unable to pay the same, --- after the 22nd day of October 1853, then it shall
be lawful for the said Isaiah J. Settle, and he is hereby fully authorized and empowered, at the
request of the said Lewis F. Mankins and James A. McFarland, or either of them, their heirs--- to
proceed to sell, at public auction, to the highest bidder, for ready money, the previous hereby
conveyed, having first given at least ----weeks public notice in public newspaper published in the
town of Leesburg, of the time and place of such sale, and out of the proceeds thereof , first pay all
cost attending the execution of this trust, secondly, pay to the said Mankins and McFarland, their
heirs or assigns, such sum of money as may them be justly due them under this trust; thirdly,
execute to the purchaser or purchasers of said tract of land, such titles as is conveyed to heirs by
this trust deed; and lastly, the surplus, if any remain, pay over to the said Garrett C. Freeman, Jane
W. Freeman and Sophia M. Freeman, shall enjoy free, full and perfect possession and occupation
of the premises aforesaid, until a sale thereof shall take place under, and by authority of this trust
In witness whereof, the said Garrett C. Freeman, Jane W. Freeman and Sophia M. Freeman, have
hereunto set their hands and seals the date above.

I Alexander D. Lee, Justice of the peace for the said County of Loudoun, do hereby certified, that
Garrett C. Freeman, Jane W. Freeman and Sophia M. Freeman, apery to a certain trust deed dated
on the 22nd day of October 1851, and hereby annexed, personally appearing before me in said
County, and severally acknowledged--- -- to be their act and deed, and desire me to certify the same
to the clerk of said county court, in order that said Trust Deed may be recorded.
